This book is a methodological approach to the goal-based safety design procedure that will soon be an international requirement. This is the first single volume book to describe how to satisfy safety goals by modern reliability engineering. Its focus is on the quantitative aspects of the international standards using a methodological approach. Case studies illustrate the methodologies presented. Professor Hiromitsu Kumamoto gained his B.E, M.E and Dr. of Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at Kyoto University in 1969, 1971 and 1976 respectively. He has investigated reliability and safety engineering subjects for 30 years as a university scholar. Currently, he is a Professor in the Graduate School of Informatics at Kyoto University. Professor Kumamoto has co-authored four books, published by Prentice-Hall and IEEE Press.
