This review acts both as a record and as a forum for exchanging ideas. Published each year, it identifies key events in European industrial relations, political economy and social policy during the preceding year and invites leading academic commentators from across the EU to assess their significance. The authors, writing in an accessible style, not only discuss current developments but also provide an informed, longer term perspective. The current issue, reviewing the years 2001-2002 with some informed discussion of future developments, is published at a time when the EU is at yet another of its crossroads as further attempts to make progress on enlargement – as well as on economic and political integration – confront widespread popular scepticism and some national resistance.
